Informative post #1: I Daresay That Modern Technology Harms People

As technology grows each passing year, the number of people who rely on it also increases. With technology, people can achieve feats that they cannot before and can do things more easily. However, great power comes with a great price and I daresay that the price overweight the benefits.

From  the article titled The internet never forgets,
I learned the truth about modern technology

To make it easier for you readers, I summarized the article in point form as the following:

  • Alan (A made-up name) is a man who did drugs and was caught in 2010
  • Even though he wanted to mend his way, the internet never forgets. Alan's past incident is forever stored in the internet
  • Many other people who had done something wrong in the past are shunned from society because their wrongs can be easily found with a single click of the popular search machine "Google".
  • For example, Argentinian pop star Virginia Da Cunha's old explicit pictures can still be found through Yahoo and Google. As a result, she even filed a suit against those two companies.
  • Facebook status that are long gone can be dug up and used by the company easily again.
  • Every person in the world can know about you, they can search about you from Google. That is not a trivial matter, it is inconceivably scary.
  • The internet gives you something free, in return for your data and then sell it.
  • Anna Fielder, an advocate at Privacy International said, "There are so many really clever technological means of mining your data and profiling you. Why is it so difficult to create the reverse, a privacy-enhancing technology?"
